Our twins love to get up early in the morning and play together while the rest of us are still asleep. But now baby E is wanting to get up early too. So, when I get the chance to nap, I’ve usually ended up with a stuffed animal draped over my eyes to block out the bright light in the room. That inspired me to try making a sleep mask out of some scrap fabric. Of course my favorite fabric to repurpose is my worn out Paul Smith socks, so I wanted to try incorporating some of that. I’ve been using the mask all week, and it’s working like a charm. It might be handy for future plane trips too!
It was very simple to make. I’ll put some brief instructions below if you want to try it out.
Hope you can get some sleep!
I used two rectangles of fabric, about 4×8 inches each. Then rounded the corners and placed them right sides together.
Then I cut a 16 inch strip of elastic, and placed it between the two pieces of fabric. (See photo below.)
Now sew along three sides, leaving the end with the long elastic sticking out, open. (I also sewed over the other end of the elastic a few times to make it more secure.)
Take the other end of the elastic and align it in the middle of the open end of the mask. Sew over it, and leave one small opening so you can turn the mask right-side out.
After you turn the mask right-side out, just hand sew the opening closed, and get some sleep!
Happy napping, Joel!!!
Cut a couple of holes in it and and BAM! Super Joel! Might kinda defeat the whole napping / sleep side of it but throw in a cape and you’re ready to take on the world or at least three small children.
Nice one.
Ha, good idea Pete! Yeah, I’ll have to make one for my son. He’d love a super hero mask!
Lovely. Must make one of these soon. Thank you. :)
Wow I didn’t know I could make my own! I am going to try this this weekend with the time change im going to need more sleep!
This is great – Perfect tutorial! :) Thanks!
