Knights Battle: Made by Joel vs. Lego

My son and I are big Lego fans, and he just got a new knight that has a moveable arm. It looked like a lot of fun, so I thought I’d try and make a wooden version so we could have a friendly dual. We had a great time making a little video too. (Spoiler alert: Lego wins :)

We’re already drawing up plans for additional wooden knight accessories, including a launching catapult for the arm, and a bouquet of flowers for the Queen as a peaceful sword substitute. Nice.

This is fabulous! I’m wondering since you don’t sell your toys, are the designs copyrighted? I’d love to find someone who could make these!!!

    1. Hey Holly. Thanks! Yeah, I’m actually currently in the process of starting a toy company, so hopefully in a few months my toys will be available. If you can find someone to make you something for personal use though, that’s totally fine.

  2. This is great! My nearly 4 year old son would love this as he’s really into knights at the moment…We live in England and there’s a castle in the center of town, so I’m hearing a lot about knights from him!
Also just wanted to say as a stay at home dad, that you’re blog’s been inspiring for me, so thank you!

  3. That’s really great. My sons (3 and 5 years old) are totally in the knight stuff.
I was wondering : do you plan to build a castle with a drawbridge and stuff like that ?

    1. Thanks everyone!

Clumsy L. – Yeah, a wooden castel toy would be really awesome. I’ve actually been planning on making a Castle Knights Paper City, but haven’t gotten to it yet. It will be fun to make all of the horses and stuff.

  4. Hi Joel, I’d love to offer your knight on my website – I sell woodworking digital files around the world and this would be a great CNC or Laser project. Please visit http://WoodMarvels.com and let me know if you are interested.

    1. Thanks for the kind offer Jon. I’m actually starting my own toy company. I’ll let you know how it goes! I’ve got quite a few things that I want to have produced by CNC or Laser. Very fun stuff!

  5. Joel, These are off the hook! I love the simplicity and effectiveness of how it functions.
Nice. A Castle knights paper city would be rad also. I’m planning to make a castle out of some of the ensuing cardboard boxes from Christmas. Have a good one!

  6. Hi Joel,

Absolutely love the wooden knight – can’t wait to see more. I work in a museum in central Massachusetts that is all about knights in shining armor. Really hope that you do create a Castle Knights paper city!

    1. Joel,

Let me know if I can send you any info about knights. Also check out our website – we have lots of great images there. We also just opened a new hands on gallery called Castle Quest…all about life in a medieval castle. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help or add or if you’d be up for collaboration. http://www.higgins.org

    2. Awesome looking site. My son would love visiting this place. (as would I, ha.) I’ll definitely send you a note if I have any questions when I get to the design phase. Thanks!
